Exported DCP audio level

Post by koop » Sat Mar 16, 2019 2:30 pm

Dear Christer,

I made several DCP with cuteDCP Premiere plugin already, but recently, after a test with the soundengeener with the film, we realized, that tha sound on the DCP is 3dB lower than the original mix. Source audio was separate mono tracks (PCM WAV, 24bit) and I used them in premiere on a multichanel with monotracks (like in the tutorials).

A also made a test DCP with -12dB testsound on each channel and a DNxHR HQ 8bit export with 6channel, 24bit, separate mono tracks and audio in the DCP is -3dB lower, while in DNxHR is correct.

Could you please suggest me, what could be the problem (is it on my side, or on the plugin, or somewhere else), or what should I do to get the correct sound levels?

Many thanks for your reply in advance!

Best,
Daniel

Hi Daniel!
In your audio multichannel setup, was the audio tracks set to standard or mono?
The standard channels gives you -3dB lower than mono.

Christer

Hi Christel,

your suggestion was correct, I opened standard (stereo) chanels, and put the mono sounds on that, so now I understand the -3db.
And the DNxHD export was from an other layout (I hade 6 mono chanels from my preset, and 6 standard chanels, what I add as extra to my preset).

Many thanks for your fast reply!

Best,
Daniel
